‘she’s a little bit sketchy… at least with a pencil she is.
Gayle is a self taught artist, she has been living in the Comox Valley her whole life, as they say ‘she was born this way’, with a love of all things art.
She has worked in a number of artistically diverse & creative jobs; as a advertising lay out artist, retail store decorator / merchandise display curator.
After 30 years of a busy family & work life; there came a chance to return to grade one, on a field trip with her oldest grandchild's grade one class to the Leighton Art Institute in Calgary’s foot hills. Everyone in the little class was given a small drawing pad and pencil to go out and sketch what you seen.
That field trip opportunity 7 years ago re-inspired a far too long dormant love of drawing.
Gayle use’s a variety of papers & pencil’s, graphite pencils most predominantly, as well as some 'Prisma' & 'Faber-Castell’ Colour & ‘Faber-Castell’ & ’Bruynzeel’ water colour pencils, as well as ink pens to create her original art works.
Inspiration comes from life experiences, nature, animals, memories, and the things the speak to a soul are her subjects of choice.
Her philosophy not unlike many artists is ‘Art should speak to your soul, remind you, inspire you and make you smile’.
Gayle is an Active Member of the ‘Federation of Canadian Artists’.
It has taken Gayle a life time to get back to the beginning of where she should been all along…needless to say, should you
get the chance to go back to grade one, you should go, it is very rewarding.
